Healing Quilt

My nephew is undergoing kidney transplant surgery next week. And his father is donating a kidney to make this all happen.

So what can I do?

Make them both a healing quilt. Stitched with love, praying for them as I quilt the quilts...can't see to quilt through the tears that come as I pray...having to stop every once in a while to wipe the tears from my eyes......pleading with the Great Physician to heal them both and give them long lives after all this is done.

There is something very healing in making a quilt. It is my prayer that these quilts offer comfort and encouragement to the recipients as they navigate through this difficult time.

Shape of my Heart

Just wondering...what shape is your heart in? These days we are bombarded with reminders to exercise in order to keep our hearts healthy. My heart needs more exercise...just gotta get out there and do it...

Yes, physical health is important. But what about the spiritual health of our "heart"? There is so much confusion out there these days, so many voices telling us where to look for spiritual insight and health. When an appliance isn't working properly, I go to the maker's manual for help. Just a suggestion...we need to go to our Creator when we need fixing. He knows what we need. He has provided what we need. We just need to ask Him. He has the answers we are looking for.

Snowman Cookie Jar

My snowman cookie jar was sitting on my counter looking empty and forlorn  so I decided to bake some gluten free chocolate chip cookies. The texture is a little different from cookies made with wheat flour, but my cookie monster has tested these and given them the thumbs up! He's happily munching on some as he works upstairs. With coffee and a few cookies in hand, I'm off to the quiltcave to play! Happy Saturday!

Aprons

Lately, I'm on to making aprons. For Christmas baking sessions, I made each of my daughters a quilted apron. I used Margot Languedoc's pattern and Moda's Figgy Pudding fabric line. One apron was made with the red/green fabrics    

and the other the blues/whites. Each apron fits the colour fav's of each daughter.

And yesterday, I decided to use up a lone charm square pack...Blush, by Moda...and make myself one for Valentines day! It's in progress but here's a peak. Need to purchase a bit more from the line for backing and finishing. Oh...that means a trip to the quilt store. How fun!

The Red Pot

I love the colour red. When I saw this pot at my favorite home store recently, I knew we belonged together. My daughter suggested I let it sit on my stove as part of my kitchen decor and so that's where it lives. Today I decided to make soup out of last night's roasted chicken. I always think of my mom when I make soup. She made the best soups ever and it seems to be such a cozy thing to do on a cold Canadian January afternoon. While I quilted away downstairs, the simmering soup filled the house with delicious smells. I'll put the leftovers in the fridge and voila...I have lunch for tomorrow! Yummm!

Little Blue Quilt

Sometimes I just want to make something that can be completed in a few hours. Yesterday I took the scraps from my recent retreat project and I made my little buddy a quilt...for her basket. Simple...but done in a jiffy. Now when she keeps me company in the quiltcave, she can snuggle in a quilt too!

Retreat Weekend

This past weekend, a few friends gathered in my quilt studio for a mini quilt retreat. We sewed, ate, shared, and sewed some more. My wonderful husband catered the entire weekend, keeping us well fed and our energy up. It was great to gather together after the busy Christmas season and enjoy creating together. There is something very special about women who share close friendships gathering together and I am thankful for these women who have been witnesses to my life. I appreciate them letting me be a witness to their lives.
